SSAS 2008 Metadata Repository data - User Knowledge base

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hello, We have the SQL Server 2008 Analysis services instance with some databases, cubes, Dimensions, Measure groups, partitions, etc. The business users are find difficulty to search for a particular measure. I mean, it is difficult for them locate a measure from the available cubes; again finding the respective Measure Group/ Folder is not an easy task for them. Also, they need to know the source system of a particular attribute in a dimension, formula for the calculated measure and etc. So, we have planned to develop a knowledge repository, which needs to store the business metadata for the SSAS databases. The user needs to be access this information using the SharePoint site and should help them locate and understand the data. The User Interface needs to be user friendly too. I need your valuable suggestions for the design of this system. Note: I have referenced the below articles http://dwbi1.wordpress.com/2010/01/01/ssas-dmv-dynamic-management-view/ http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlanalysisservices/thread/c610850f-16b4-4eaf-9b91-a2d32816f40e

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

SSAS 2008 - The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension

Last week I was able to view member properties for my Product Dimension in Excel 2010 pivot tables. Suddenly, without having made any changes to the dimension (for example, in the Attribute Relationships window of the dimension), those member properties are no longer available in Excel. I get the error "The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension" when I try to select "Show Properties in Report" or "Show Properties in Tooltips" in the Pivot Table. At the same time, member properties are available for all other dimensions. I have also not made any changes to the data source connection in Excel and in any event, there is no option in the data source connection to enable or disable member property visibility. I am using BIDS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.1600.1). Does anybody have an idea why this might be happening?

SSAS 2008 data refresh problem in Excel 2007

My problem sounds like that:

I have some cube created with SSAS 2008 and I'm using Excel 2007 as browser to view cube data.

I made pivot table with nessesary data, everything works fine till I save excel file and sent it to my client.

When client uses some filter, some row measures disapear. Dimension data are shown, measures are blank cells, but calculations from those measures is filled.

e.g. I see difference of sales between years in percent, but I can't see measures, which were used to count that difference, because in excel I see blank cells.

Any ideas?

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Linq - add data to database then email user the details

Hi all

I'm not sure how to structure the code for this but what I want to do is be able to add data to a database, and once this has completed successfully, then email the user to say the details have been added successfully to the database.

I need to:

1. Check that the relevant data has been added into the database then

2. Email the details of the relevant data when completed.

Thanks in advance for your help,

logged in user data

I'm using the defualt membership provider, i created a table and used the gridview on the logged in user page to show his information such as address e-mail phone zip code etc,, how can i do this without writing a code?

Storing User Data

I'm trying to get the current logged in UserId Value, using this code

Protected Sub UserProfileDataSource_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles UserProfileDataSource.Selecting      ' Get a reference to the currently logged on user      Dim currentUser As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser()      ' Determine the currently logged on user's UserId value      Dim currentUserId As Guid = CType(currentUser.ProviderUserKey, Guid)      ' Assign the currently logged on user's UserId to the @UserId parameter      e.Command.Parameters("@UserId").Value = currentUserId End Sub

But, I getting an error (NullReferenceException), I did set a url authorization on the page that i try to get the logged in user information, witch is info.aspx, and I made the login.aspx control to be redirected to the info.aspx after the login process, But the info.aspx  only shows me (access in denied), how can i make this page knows that i am already logged in?

Persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control

Hi All,

I am trying to persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control. Here are the details

I have a user control which contains a a listBox and button. On Page_Load of user control I am populating the ListBox control with some values. On Click of button, I am trying to fetch the values which I have selected in ListBox. Though this seems very simple and straight forward I am unable to fetch values.

My Page_Load Function

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

My Click Function

Protected Void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

       string strValue = listBox.SelectedValue

I have placed brake point at Page_Load and on click function, I am seeing that the moment the breakpoin

No ASPNET User in Windows Server 2008?

I have been looking everywhere online regarding this, but have not found a clear answer.

I have an ASP.Net app running on Windows Server 2008, it's basically a reporting app using Crystal Reports. I have encountered a roadblock in regards to rendering some pages. When I run the app in Visual Studio(on the same 2008 machine) everything works perfectly. Yet when I publish it and run it live the reports will not display correctly, I get a message saying Failed to render page.

I looked this error up in the Crystal Reports website and the fixes they have there refer to giving the windows "aspnet" user full access rights to certain folders on the machine. I would be happy to do this, however there is no aspnet user in Windows Server 2008.

I installed the server and set its role to be Web Server. I also checked all the options regarding ASP.Net and IIS 6 compatibility. Yet there is no ASPNET username anywhere.

Did I set the server up wrong? or do I have to do something within ASP.Net to  create this user and then give it rights?

Which ComponentModel.DataAnnotations attributes are used in the Dynamic Data metadata classes?

This namespace contains a lot of attributes for use in, I'm sure, many different applications. I'm curious to know which subset of the attributes in this namespace can be and are used in the Dynamic Data proxy class system, where the entity class is given an attribute that specifies a metadata type. That type contains properties with the same names as properties in the entity class, and the metadata provider builds MetaColumns using attributes on properties in these 'buddy' (proxy') classes.

So far my list includes, from System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations:

Required, Range, DisplayFormat, StringLength, UIHint, DataType, Regular Expression, Display Column, Editable, and CustomValidation.

And from System.ComponentModel:

DisplayName, Description, and DefaultValue.

Am I missing any?
