Site settings -> Site Collection Administration -> Site collection features VS Site Settings -> Site Actions -> Mange site features I would like to understand what is the difference between these consoles at the site collection level. I found this link to an explaination but it didn't make it clearer.  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/97e184dc-6f78-4ee5-a95c-2cc564134798 Why when I deploy a custom feature with the target site, level does it go to to the Site collection features console and not the Manage site features console

Activate Features on Site Collection creation via Site Template

I'm attempting to make my first Site Template, and I'm using some of the existing OOB template onet.xml files as a guide.  One thing I can't figure out is how to select which Features you want to be activated on the site collection creation from your template.

Also, how can you find a list of all available Features and the Scopes the are available for?

how to automaticaly enable 10 features for a new created site collection

Dear all,

I was trying to have the new created sites with several features enabled by default. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Further more, if this is only possible with a lot of programming knowledge (what I don't have), is there a way to enable 10 features with one click after the site is created (say batch file or powershell)?

Thanks in advance,

Programmatically activate SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection features

As my solution requires the enterprise features I'm required to activate them. Right now I'm doing it manually through "site settings -> site collection features", but I want to do it automatically when activating an other part of my solution. I've used PowerShell to see the difference for "Get-SPFeature -site myurl" before and after activating the enterprise feature by hand, but there're at least 10 site collection features being activated through this one click step.

Is there a list of features which are part of the SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection features or is there an easier way to activate them all at a time instead of doing it one by one programmatically.

Missing "SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features" in Site COllection Feature

All collection sites seem to be missing on the "SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features" in Site COllection Feature. However, I have PowerPivot uninstalled and reinstalled. Not sure if this could be the reason for it.

Features not appearing in Site Collection Administration

I wrote a Feature in Visual Studio 2010, deployed it successfully. The feature got activated without any issue.

But my concern is why is it not appearing it under "Site Settings" even though in my elements.xml file I have given

<Custom Action Id="MyAction" GroupId="SiteAdministration" Location="Microsoft.SharePoint.Settings" .../>

I want this feature to appear under SiteSettings as an activated feature, am I doing something wrong?

FrontPage 2002: Build Database Connectivity and Office XP Collaboration Features Into Your Site

FrontPage 2002 is packed full of improvements and new features, and includes tighter integration with Microsoft Office. The result is that documents created in Word and Microsoft Excel drop right into your Web site. Tools such as the clipboard, context sensitive search, and advanced copy and paste features have been introduced. Improved views and editing features make content creation faster and easier. Enhanced publishing features give you finer control over what is published, and reports detail publishing and usage statistics. There are also many new wizards to help you fly through tasks such as database connection. This article looks at these and other important features you'll want to explore.

Deploying features to a specific sub-site

Hi all, I have a Root Site collection, and it has various sub sites, I have a couple of lists and content types that are specific to some sub sites, and the client doesn't want these lists and content types viewable across the company so it makes sense that these are deployed to their respective sub sites only so that they are not available at the root level. I know if you go through the Site Settings for the sub sites, you can create content types and lists that are only available in that site, but I am battling to deploy these content type & lists to their specific sub-sites though Visual Studio 2010, does anyone know how to do this?

Adding a site wide Log In Features to an ASP.NET MVC Web Site.

Having fitted the theme generated for the Contoso Karate Web Sites (see the previous posts in this series) it’s time to start adding functionality to the template. If you’re new to ASP.NET MVC, let me take this opportunity to encourage you to stick with it. Much is different and sometimes this makes things especially frustrating [...] Read More......(read more)

Site Collection Usage Summary: No Data Available

Usage analysis processing is enable for my farm in both Central Administration and in the SSP.

I've checked TImer Job Status and the three timer jobs responsible for doing the log analsis are all running.

I've also checked the log file locations and the log files are being generated.

Yet when I browse the "Site collection usage summary" report (SpUsageSite.aspx) I get the following:

No data is available for this report. Usage analysis might have been enabled only recently, or there might have been insufficient usage to result in any values for the report.

My farm is running 2007 Enterprise SP2 (

Can someone confirm if this issue was fixed with one of the CU's that were issues post-SP2?

Site Collection Usage Report Include Outlook?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the Site Collection Usage Report includes activity that occurs from Outlook? For example, if a user contributes to a discussion board without ever physically touching the site or if the user just reads list content from Outlook, is this included?

ANY help at all is greatly appreciated.

Portal Search Work - Site Collection Search Does Not

In our SharePoint installation we have an SSP which indexes local office sharepoint server sites.  However there is a problem, although we can do portal searches which reveal search results it is not able to do local searches at the site collection level and as a result we are presented with the typical error below.

No results matching your search were found.

  1. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly?
  2. Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words.
  3. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones.
  4. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.

I am unsure as to why this strange event is occuring.  We do not have the WSS Search component running in the MOSS environment as the SSP service should be able to index and server search queries at the portal and local site collection level.

Any thoughts to this?
