Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise on Windows7

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello we just installed Sharepoint 2010 Foundation on Windows 7 great! and plan on using this configuration for to get our feet wet and now want to start planning for a configuring that will allow to utilize Excel Services and Data Warehouse capabilities and it appears that we will probably need to use the  Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise version based on this comparison chart: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/Pages/Editions-Comparison.aspx so what we're wondering is will we be able to load the Enterprise version on Windows7? or will we need to install Windows Server 2008 on our machine first and then load the TechNet Enterprised version? or will there be inherent problems  in that approach based on the fact that we are using a desktop and not a real "server" machine? Thanks very much, got my fingers crossed!  BobK

SharePoint 2010 Product Key to use upon installation Enterprise vs Internet

We are building a public facing SharePoint 2010 instance. Now of course we have to get the correct licences for public access and such, which we have done, but we have 2 licence keys one for "Enterprise" and one for "internet". What is the basic difference between using the "Enterprise" key VS the "internet" key? The install process asks for a product key, but does not give up any hints as to which key should be used for what purpose. When installing SharePoint 2010 for our public facing sites which Product key do we use? On the face of it you would think that the the "internet" key should be used because of the public facing requirement, but would that give you all of the other services (e.g., excel, infopath, visio, etc..) that the "Enterprise" key (Licence) provides? If you install with one key and realize after the fact that you needed to install with the other key can it be easily changed or is a re-install of SharePoint 2010 needed? Any assistance would be most appreciated    MatteoMatteo

Downgrading from Sharepoint 2010 Internet Enterprise to Standard (Purely a licensing rights question

My company already owns a license for Sharepoint 2010 Internet Enterprise.  We are planning a two server Internet farm.  We need to buy one more license and we only need the standard version which is significantly cheaper.  Is it allowed to use Standard when we own a license for Enterprise?

Do you need to license Office Web Apps seperate from sharepoint server 2010 enterprise license?

Hi All, I been reading this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#bkmk_ins_exis_farm  and have come to the conculsion that if you want word viewing services and power point services you need to license and download office web apps separate from the SharePoint Licensing/download. Can anyone confirm this that may know more about the subject? I thought those services would come along with enterprise but from what I’m reading I guess not.   Regards, Jeff

Can I install SQL 2008 on a server running SQL 2005 to install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise (Productio

Hi,

Sharepoint 2010 Upgrade Question - A customer is currently running sharepoint 2007 on a 64bit windows 2003 OS with SQL 2005 sp2, they are looking to install/upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 and want to use the current SQL server, for the upgrade a new SharePoint 2010 environment will be built and for a short while they will have two instances of SharePoint running SP2007 and SP2010. The plan is to then manually migrate the data from SP2007 to SP2010 (ENT), the web and application servers will be newly built. From research I think they have three options

1) Upgrade the current SQL 2005(SP2) instance to SQL 2008 R2 standard.

2) Install a new instance of SQL 2008 R2 on the same server and have both SQL 2005 & SQL 2008 running on the same server (Is this an option? Will sharepoint happily run from a SQL server running two SQL instances, do I have to be careful regarding the installation and configuration, could I break the existing sharepoint farm doing this?)

3) Upgrade the current SQL server to SP3 and install a new instance of SQL 2005 SP3 and install SharePoint 2010 Enterprise here, again I have all the questions from point 2 above.

We are thinking of trying option 1, then 2, then 3, and obviously only moving to the next option if we come across a show stopper. H

Upgrade/Migrate MOSS 2007 Wiki to SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Wiki

We've been running MOSS 2007 for a few years now and have built up a Wiki.

I am now investigating the migration to SharePoint 2010, I've used the database attach method to copy across our Intranet site collection to a development SharePoint 2010 install (this includes our Wiki).

This works except for an error under the "Recent Changes" heading and the new 2010 Enterprise Wiki features are not available.

What I'm trying to find out is if there is a way to either upgrade the Wiki sub-site or migrate the Wiki data into a new 2010 Wiki sub-site that I can swap for the live one.

I've tried to just copy the items from the "Wiki Pages" list of the imported sub-site to the "Pages" list of a new 2010 Wiki sub-site, but they then just appear as "ASP.Net pages" and don't display the Wiki content.

I've also tried a couple of the commercial migration tools but these also just seem to copy the aspx files and leave them not viewable.

Thanks in advance

Paul

SharePoint Enterprise Search 2010 Error

Hi All,

We have two server farms:

1. MOSS 2007 Server Farm having Web application and its pages and content

2. SharePoint 2010 Farm having Enterprise Search 2010 with one Web Application using Search Template

We are trying to crawl the MOSS 2007 web application, which on a separate farm from the SharePoint 2010 box. We created the Search Service Application, Web Application and have associated the Web Application with the Search Service Application.

We have provided the scopes for searching the MOSS 2007 Web Application for its content and pages and also provided separate scope for searching people from the MOSS 2007 box using the appropriate SPS2/STS3 protocol.

We have also made a change in the Search Settings of the MOSS 2007 Site Collection to redirect the search to the SharePoint 2010 box, when any user uses the Search box of MOSS 2007. This works perfectly well.

Appropriate read-only rights have been given to the web application using the Central Administratoin web application policy.

The only issue we have is, when a user tries to visit the search results pages on the SharePoint 2010 box, and when displaying the search result, SP 2010 box hits MOSS 2007 box  to fetch the require data and displays pop-up box for Authentication.

Is there anyway, where we can supress the Authentication

SharePoint Enterprise Search 2010 Error

Hi All,

We have two server farms:

2. SharePoint 2010 Farm having Enterprise Search 2010 with one Web Application using Search Template

Appropriate read-only rights have been given to the web application using the Central Administratoin web application policy.

There are two issues here

1. As mentioned by ram, we have two boxs [MOSS 2007 and SP 2010 for Enterprise Search] so when user clicks search from MOSS 2007 site it is redirected to SP 2010 box and while redirecting to SP 2010 box it displays Authentication popup. Is there any way we can supress this Auth

Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise Wiki - TOC, Table of Content - Displaying only headers for individual pag

I am currently trying to build a wiki for our users in Sharepoint 2010, but there is one particular item I just can't get right. The table of content...

I am aware of the web part TOC, but this one can't be configured to display headers for an individual page only. Instead it insist on displaying all my navigation links, for all my sites, which is quite unnecessary since they are already displayed in the navigation pane to the left.

Is there a way to create a TOC as you see on any other normal wiki page, so it would end up looking similar to my example below?

[SITE Header Example]

1. Header

1.1 Subject 1

1.2 Subject 2

2. Header 2

2.1 Subject 3 and so on...

Then the TOC should be placed in top and look similar to this.

1. Header

1.1 Subject 1

1.2 Subject 2

2. Header 2

2.1 Subject 3

Can this be done, or would it require any 3rd party plugins?

I'm a bit baffled that the build in web part isn't more configurable, since I would have guessed that MS actually would have looked at other wiki pages to see how it is done, before adding their own templates? But maybe I am missing the obvious
