Notify when document is checked back in.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
When someone else checks out a document and I open it up, it gives me 3 options. The 3rd option is notify me. How does that work and how do I configure the server? I know about the "alert me" setting under actions, but it is to vague. I want user to be notified when a specific document is checked in.  Thanks.

Can't save SQL Server Management Studio sql file back into Sharepoint Document Library

I created an sql query file in SQL Server Management Studio and saved it onto my hard drive.  I then moved that file into a Sharepoint Document Library so others on my team could use that query.I opened the file from within sharepoint, it launched SSMS.I made a change to the file and pressed save.here is the error message that comes up."The operation could not be completed.  The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"Am I doing something wrong?

"This document could not be checked out" error in IE with SP2010 doc library

We created a document library in Sharepoint 2010 and configured it to require checkout. Via Internet Explorer, users click on a document in the library and choose "Check Out and Edit". They get the error message "This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user". We confirm that the document is not checked out to anyone else. The user is able to open the document Read Only from IE and then check it out in the application (for example, they can click the Check Out button in Word 2007 successfully), so the problem seems to be IE related. We have tried adding the Sharepoint site in the Trusted Sites and Local Intranet zones in IE, but it doesn't make a difference.Any suggestions? Thanks.

"This document could not be checked out." SharePoint 2010 checkout action using IE8

I am setting up a two-server farm, and most everything works, except the checkout action for a document.  This problem occurs in both site collections, one of which requires checkout, and the other does not. Here are the options I've tried: Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.0.1 - works Snow Leopard, Safari - works Win 2003, IE 7 - works XP, Firefox - works XP, IE 8 - "This document could not be checked out.  You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user." In IE8, I am able to open a document as read only then use the button presented by Word to check out the document.  I cannot use that as a workaround, as not all users have a version of Office that will allow checkout in that way. Checkin works fine.  I need to resolve the checkout error.

Can't redirect to other page after document checked in

Hi all,

I want to redirect to other page after check in the document in the document library. So I coded in ItemCheckedIn event.

But the problem was raised:

  • When I click the Check In button, system would pop up the message "The file could not be checked in. It may already been checked in by another user." (But it would check in the document later).
  • It couldn't redirect to other page after checking in.

Can anyone help?Thx.

Locating documents with no checked in version across multiple sites and document libraries

I have searched and searched but have not found a solution anywhere. My problem is that we have a number of document libraries that require check out for editing and have mandatory fields. When users upload multiple documents the documents are kept checked out until a value is assigned to the field and the document is checked in. The issue is, that users may not complete the process and subsequently no other users can see the document.

We tried indexing the 'Checked out to' field and allowing for users to search based on this. However, this does not display documents with no checked in version and as such does not help...

Is there some way that we can make the search indexer crawl these documents or have a web part that lists documents checked out to the logged in user? We are using SharePoint Foundation 2010 which may make this more difficult.

SP2010: This document could not be checked out.

Hello all,

I have yet another issue...'Check Out' of a document  in a library doesn't seem to work. in SP2010. It gives the error: "This document could not be checked out.  You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user".

I can edit the document, but I cannot use 'Check Out' feature in the library...is this a known bug in SP2010?

Thank you,

Unable to save document back to SharePoint over HTTPS.

We recently created a new SP2010 farm and upgraded and attached content databases to it from SP2007. When I try to edit any word/excel document from the SharePoint through the HTTPS i get the following pop up message box.

"\\sp.xxxx.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\WMC\IT\Network Engineering is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Mutual Authentication failed. The server password is out of date at the domain controller."

My name is in the Central Administration --> Manage the farm administrators group. I have Full Control permissions in the document library and almost everywhere on the site.

InfoPath Forms not saving back to the document library they were opened from

I have some occurances through out the office where some people have gone to save a form that was generated from SharePoint and the "Save" dialog takes them to the local "Documents" folder instead of the SharePoint library where it comes from. This causes the person to save the form locally and upload at a later date.

The bit that makes it hard to test is that its not on every machine.

Any ideas to what is causing this would be much appreciated

Sharepoint Checked Out Word Document Cross Reference Error on Page number Only

I see the same error as RHABALA reported in an earlier thread, after I check out my Word Document from Sharepoint into Word 2010.

When I Control-click on any of my Cross References to Page Number, they fail with the warning prompt, they seem to be incorrectly pointing at the Sharepoint path. But when I Control-click an any Cross References to Paragraph Numbers,  they still work. I've added my Sharepoint Site to the trusted list in Internet Explorer, as recommended in that thread, but no difference, the error persists.

Grateful for your assistance.

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

jQuery $(document).ready() and ASP.NET Ajax asynchronous postback

Many call it the ASP.NET jQuery postback problem, but using the technique below should make it no problem anymore. $(document).ready() isn't called after an asynchronous postback. What this means? You lose the functionality that should be executed within $(document).ready() after an UpdatePanel rendered its contents after an asynchronous postback.

SharePoint Document Workspaces for Developers

Office 2003 is being released this month, and a cast of supporting applications is already available. One of these is Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, the free team add-on for Windows Server 2003. If you're not familiar with SharePoint Services basics, take a look at What Developers Need to Know About Windows SharePoint Services. In this article, I'm going to drill into one key place where SharePoint and Office 2003 overlap: document workspaces

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

Post back puzzle

Hi, I have a website where the user makes a selection from a combo box and it then fills a couple text boxes with text based upon the selection. I'm sure as you know it could take a second for the text to appear in the text box due to the post back. I know there is no way to make it instantanious, so what I would like to do it fill the text box with somthing like "Loading Info..." so the user does not type in it while the information is loading.

If you would like to see what I mean please go to this page: www.epiclinks.com/create.aspx and mess around with the combo boxes and You'll see what I mean.

What I would like to do is have it do a post back to write "Loading Info..." and then do another post back to fill it in based upon their selection. How would I do this?

I'm up for anything, so if you have a better solution than that please let me know.
