Greetings I had problem with installing reporting services integrated with moss 2007, i somehow installed moss 2007 (web front end for the pc which will have RS instaled) without IIS, then IIS wouldnt install at all, and i decided to start over: So, i have two PC's (a PC and a virtual, to be percise). CONDORPC Has the Office Sharepoint 2007 installed and running (main server). Has SQL for the sharepoint and everything. MOSS2K7 Is the new clean install of 2008 server.   What i have installed and done to 2008 server: - Installed IIS. At first it didnt install because it had numerous problems (error log was infested with something like "could not change state of package XXX to installed state"). It asked to reboot to rollback. After reboot at second install attempt it installed correctly. - Turned off default IIS website - Installed SQL database engine as in this tutorial (http://mosshowto.blogspot.com/2009/03/reporting-services-sharepoint-multiple.html#Step-4:-Installation-of-SharePoint-2007-on-SSRS2008SPIM) This SQL will house my reporting services databases. The service is ran by network service local account. - Installed SQL RS as in the tutorial. Didnt configure it yet. It is running as domain account. - Installed .NET framework required by moss (funny how it tried to access the internet to download something athough it was a complete full download for standal

Getting AppDomain.UnhandledException event to work in a Windows Service

Nearly every forum thread I have found on "catching unhandled exceptions in a service" seems to end up where I am.  The supposed solution is the use of the AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException event.  But it doesn't work for someone, who then asks why and gets no answer.  Same for me; I can't get the event to happen.  It's as if I need the ServiceProcess version of Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(), which doesn't exist. For diagnosing this, I start a timer in a child object of the service and then throw an exception in the timer event handler.  Simple enough to simulate the real situation.  I have tried subscribing to the UnhandledException event in at least a half dozen locations throughout the service, from the Program that runs ServiceBase.Run() to the constructor of the object that owns the Timer, but it never catches this exception. The VS debugger recognizes that the forced exception is unhandled and takes me to the place where is thrown, letting me know it is an unhandled exception. Why doesn't my handler catch it?  Running without the debugger, the exception throws, the timer thread crashes, the service continues merrily along, and nothing gets logged anywhere.  That is NOT the result I need.  What are the people for whom this works doing that I am not doing? How can I at least get the offe

logoff doesn't work through windows service

Dear Friends, I am facing this problem on Windows 2003 and 2008 Server. On XP it works fine. I have written and Windows Service that takes receives the command and executes tasks such as Logoff, Shutdown, etc. All the commands except Logoff works fine. I tried following ways to perform the Logoff. However it didnt work. Try 1:                 Process.Start("shutdown", "-l"); Try 2:     [DllImport("user32.dll")]     public static extern int ExitWindowsEx(int uFlags, int dwReason);     ExitWindowsEx(0, 0); Try 3:     Process _currentProcess = new Process();                _currentProcess.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("shutdown", "-l -f");                _currentProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;                 _currentProcess.Start(); Try 4:     Process.Start("logoff.exe", null); If I write a simple C# based applicatin (not Service) it works fine for all the tries that I have made. I am facing this problem only when I put this code

Error calling WCF service that is returning list.".Debugging resource strings are unavailable ......

Ok.this is just making me frustrated... Here is step by step of what I am trying to do (& not able to) 1. I am calling WCF service hosted in a SharePoint 2010 site from a silverlight app in same domain (So no cross doman I guess). 2. I use Linq to Sharepoint for querying the DB. 3. I am having a list "machines" in Sharepoint 2010 that is having a lookup column from Other list called "part" 4. My WCF method GetAllMachines() works perfectly well when it skips the lookup column "partname" & returns List of type machineitem. 5. But problem occurs when I add machineitemobject.parts.partsname in my Linq to Sharepoint query . My service gives the error not found Async_ExceptionOccurred] Arguments: Debugging resource strings are unavailable." 6. Note that return type of my Method is List<machinesitem> 7. The point to note here is that I use SPMETAL tool to generate the LINQ class that maps the lists . So When I try to query the lookup column it tries to add List item of the type class & that is what causing the error. Is it because I am not using datacontract in my service (but it returns the strings & all private members of machines list e.g. name, title etc) Is it making the attribute Serialisable will solve the error ??? I am kind of lost in it ...Plss help!!   Thanks

Calling a Web Service Method Asynchronously does not work in Console Application

I have a web service that has a CreateReport method that generates a report based on the specified criteria. When I call this method Synchronously using a Windows Application or Console Application, the call works fine and the report is created. When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Windows Application the report is created. When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Console Application the web service does not even get the call.  I am using VS2005 and .Net Framework 2.0.  So the proxy is automatically created with the Async methods.  I am not really interested the result of the method call, so I do not add a Callback Delegate.

User Profile Synchronization service is not designed to work on a stand-alone installation

There were tons of discussions and blog posts about User Profile Synch service never starting. And now it appears that this is not even supposed to work....

Cannot get user profile service application to work using the guide on harbar.net?

I'm hoping someone on here can help with this, as I've really been round the houses with this.

Anyway I've attempted to provision the UPS Service App probably 4 times now, each time learning more and more about the common problems.

The last time, I rolled my VM back to just after the installation of SharePoint 2010 binaries, and then ran the PCW and created the farm again from scratch.

I then followed this guide: http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx

Everything seemed to work perfectly well, after provisioning UPS I did a couple of iisresets as welll as execadmsvcjobs until I could see the timer job that provisions the FIM services.

These services came up and the following errors were reported in the event log:

The first one is lies, I did start the service and verified it was running, anyway for completeness:

"There are no instances of the User Profile Service started on any server in this farm. Ensure that at least one instance is started on an application server in the farm using the Services on Server page in Central Administration."

This one I have seen constantly on my Farm through various builds:

"An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: An error occurred while receiving t

Does SSIS Web Service Task work with WCF?

From what I am reading, SSIS Web Service Task does not work with WCF, even though SSIS is 5 years old and WCF is 3. Did they fix it in 2008? R2? Will they ever?

And if it doesn't work, can someone give me pointers on setting up a Script Component to feed some variables to the WCF as inputs?

Thanks in advance.

Published WCF Service in IIS doesn't work

I'm using sync services and have a WCF service that works fine when run from teh debugger when hosted in the WCF test client that is spawned by the debugger.  But I have "published" my service to my machine and when I go to the UrL the page displays but when I try and run my sync application I get this error which make sit seem like IIS isn't "serving up" the service.  Any ideas??

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Getting intellisense to work in VS 2010 for a ajax-enabled WCF Service

Hi all,

I'm experimenting with WCF services inside of a test project.  I have seen documentation on various blogs etc. that tell me that Intellisense is available for WCF services that I write.  However, I cannot get this intellisense to work in VS 2010.  I have tried the same simple steps in VS 2008 and can get intellisense working.

Has something changed here?  Is there a chance I am doing something wrong?

I create a new web application project.
I add an ajax-enabled WCF Service.
I add the script manager control to the page and then reference my wcf service.
When I go to create an object proxy to the service the intellisense is not available.
I know my code is working because I tested it.  It can call the web service and gets the expected result.  Just no intellisense.

I've also tried referencing intellisense from a separate .js file using the following technique:
/// <reference path="MicrosoftAjax.js" />
/// <reference path="MyService.svc" />

This has also not worked.  I have verified that my pathing information etc. is correct.

Anyway, this is driving me nuts so I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this.

Cannot get my SharePoint Service 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 to work with my Office Pro 2007 32-b

I originally bought Office Pro 2007 32-bit version for my older PC with WindowsXP Operating System. Then, I bought a new PC with an i7 processor with Vista. Because I am in school I was able to get both SharePoint Designer 2007, SharePoint Server 2007, and SharePoint Services 3.0. The SharePoint Designer 2007 works well. However, the SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 say they will not work with the 32-bit version of my Office Pro 2007 applications.

So far I have not been able to find where I may download a 64-bit upgrade to my Office Pro 2007 or a workaround for SharePoint. I chatted with a Microsoft representative but he was unable to help. This was frustrating because it cost $500.00 for the software and I do not have another $500.00 to spend on the 64-bit version of Office Pro 2007 after what I spent to get a newer system.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

web service method doesn't work

DEar all,

I have developed a asp.net website in visual studio 2008, I have Sharepoint server 2010 installed n configured.

In my asp.net website I have a function which will create a folder in the sharepoint site.

My problem is when I have published the website, the folder is not being created.

But when i am debugging it, the folder is being created in the sharepoint site.

My Code is as follows:

String CreateFolder(string sfolderName)

"Service Unavailable" after installing MOSS 2007

I have just installed MOSS 2007 on a machine with 64-bit Win 2K3. It installs fine but after installation navigating to the Central Administration site yields a "Service Unavailable" message.

I tried searching for reasons for this, but the event viewer has no significant logs, and the relevant services (World Wide Wed Publishing Service, Windows SharePoint Services Administration, and Windows SharePoint Services Timer are all started.

I had previously installed and run MOSS 2007 successfully on this machine, but had to uninstall and reinstall for an unconnected reason. After reinstalling, I am now getting the "Service Unavailable" error.

Can someone give me an idea what to look into to debug this issue? Thanks in advance.

Protocol error (503 Service unavailable) when calling webservice from Win2003

I'm receiving a 503 Service unavailable -error from a webservice when calling client is on WinServer 2003.

Scenario: Windows Forms (.NET 4) application calls remote webservice on windows server 2003 to fetch information.
In some cases it takes a long time for the WebService to get the informationa (long running database procedure) so the client waits for the response.
WebService timeouts are set at +30min.

The setup has worked fine for some time now but recently we discored that a particular long running request began to fail.
The Windows Forms client fails with a 503: Service Unavailable -error and ProtocolError after just a couple of minutes into waiting for the response.

We did some testing and this error occurs if the client application is installed on a Windows Server 2003 box.
If we do the same test with the client application installed on a Windows 7 box it works without errors.

It seems that it has something to do with Windows 2003 but how to debug this?
Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?
