SQL error: Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.

I hope someone can advise on the issue I'm having.

This SQL worked beautiful until I added in @startdt and @enddt and this section >> AND [Selldate] BETWEEN ' + @startdt + ' AND ' + @enddt + '

By adding in this condition, I now get the following error:

Msg 241, Level 16, State 1, Line 8
Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.

I have tried changed variables to type = date and various iterations of date formatting, casting with no success. The date in the table is clean as a whistle.

(The CONVERT function is being used in setup for a PIVOT SQL which needs  VARCHAR for column headers)

Thanks in advance for your help,
JR

declare @itemID varchar(20)
declare @startdt varchar(12)
declare @enddt varchar(12)
set @itemID = ''

Converting string into Date

Hi all,

I have a date value that is returned as 'Sun, 28 Nov 2010 02:40:00'. Can anyone help me convert it into a valid date, I only need the date part, not the Time. So 'Sun, 28 Nov 2010 02:40:00' would be 28/11/2010 (I'm in  Europe!)

Regards

Melt

Declare @myDate datetime
Select @myDate = 'Sun, 28 Nov 2010 02:40:00'
Print @myDate

Conversion from string to type 'Date' is not valid

Hi

Im receiving a strange error Error Message: Conversion from string "15/08/2010 22:21:35" to type 'Date' is not valid.

I know this is generally down to cultural date formats etc, however the reason this is strange is it just randomly occured twice in the last week, the website has been running since october and nothing has changed,

The error constantly occured until the IIS was reset and recompilled the site, its been running fine since, however im just trying to figure out what could cause such an error to occur.

I've narrowed it down to a line of code which is:

bktime = DReader.Item("Bktime").ToString

bktime = Year(CDate(bktime)) & "-" & fmt(Month(CDate(bktime)), 2) & "-" & fmt(Day(CDate(bktime)), 2)

Has anyone else encountered this randomly occuring and is there anything i can put in place to prevent this in future?

Cheers

Mike

How to handle null while converting from my datatable to List<> using LINQ

I am converting my datatable to LISt using LINQ
how do I handle nulls coming from database

List<Port> portDetails = new List<Port>();
DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0];
portDetails = (from q in dt.AsEnumerable()
select new Port
{
PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"),
ExtCode = q.Field<string>("Nb"),
Name = q.Field<string>("Name"))
}).ToList();

In the above query if Code is null I do not want property
portcode to be set to the value it should only set if it is
not null or not blank
PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"),

What should be syntax
I was trying somethign like this which doesnt work
Portcode = q.Field<bool>("Code") == null ? null : q.Field<bool>("Code")

Change connection string of Linq to Sql entities

Hi all.I have a solution which uses Linq to SQL Data Classes to acced the db. I have a project for my domain objects in my solution, which is a class library and has the dbml file. When I set up the dmbl using the wizard, Visual Studio created an app.config file on that project with the connection string. It also creatting a settings file with the same info. I've noticed that if I change the connection string in the settings file, the app.config gets updated, which is the expected behaviour.However, I'm having a problem when I deploy my web site to the production server. I already set the app.config file's Build Action to "Content", and also set Copy to ouput directory to "Always". Nevertheless, when I install the web site and change the connection string in the app.config file, it still takes the old connection string, so obviously I get an error. I've found that it only works if I change it with in Visual Studio and then compile, but of course that's not an optimal solution, because any change in the production db server would mean I have to change my project's assembly, thus generating a new version.Any thing I'm missing? What do I have to configure so that the assembly takes the connection string form my app.config file directly after I deploy?Thanks a lot.

Convert a string (from xml) into date time

Is there a simple command to take this string: 2010-09-09T17:00:00.000Z and turn it into a date time? It is a date time value that is passed to us in an xml document, it has a type of 'unitless', when I read it I need to set a dateTime variable to this date and tim, I can parse it, but perhaps there is a simple single command that is already written for just such a thing. Thanks.

Need to convert query string(date - 09/15/2010) to a text format - yyyymmdd

I am fairly new to C # and need some assistance with a form page.  I have created a simple form that requires the user to select a beginning date and ending date.  I then pass the values to my code behind page via query strings.  I have them passing, but I need the format to be change to a different format.  Unfortunately the database does not use the standard date format.  It requires the date to be in a text format as YYYYMMDD.Form: <tr> <td> Beginning Date:</td> <td><asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="begDate"></asp:TextBox> <asp:Image ID="Image2" ImageUrl="~/images/calendar_schedulehs.png" runat="server" /></td> </tr> Code Behind: protected void createReport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { StringBuilder url = new StringBuilder("Report/TopCustomer.aspx?"); url.Append("BegDate=" + begDate.Text); url.Append("&EndDate=" + endDate.Text); url.Append("&Brnch=" + ddlLocation.SelectedValue); Response.Redirect(url.ToString()); Current URL: TopCustomer.aspx?BegDate=09/15/2010&EndDate=09/30/2010&Brnch=300I need to have the above URL change to:TopCustomer.aspx?BegDate=20100915&E

Converting string to DateTime

Hello, I am trying to figure out the best way to convert a string object into a DateTime with only using the year.I have something like:Date Time HSYear = DateTime.ParseExact(HighSchoolyear, "yyyy", System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentCulture); But it is still giving a "String was not a recognized as a valid DateTime."In the full context, I have a webpage with a formview on it and within the formview is a TextBox control that is taking a user input such as "1999"  then an ObjectDataSource picks it up and runs it through a BLL. And within the BLL is where I am trying to convert it before it gets inserted into the database.
