Solution File and Projects Settings/Configurations maintenance.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am using VS2005 and I have a solution file (.SLN) which has 8 projects. I moved the solution file to a different path on a shared folder to have better organization of my projects and to allow access to the solution/projects from any computer on the network. After that, I edited the .SLN file so that the path of the projects in the solution file are correct (all on shared folders). After that, I opened the .SLN and everything seemd to be working fine. However, I notcied that the "Start Options" of the website part of the solution file is missing the "Start Options", ie, the Start Options are reset to default values. I think also, but not sure, some other settings of the Solution/Projects have been reset. Questions: 1. Where the Web Site "Start Options" are stored ? 2. How I can maintain the Start Options and similar settings if the .SLN file is moved or opened from different computers on the network ? 3. I am not using an team development tools, only plain (vanilla) VS 2005 Prof. Edition. Is it possible to have 2 or more developers work on the same solution/projects (shared on the network), if both developers will coordinate manually simultanous access to the porject files/resources/source code ? XSLT: Simplify Development and Maintenance of Microsoft .NET Projects with Code Generation Technique

Code generation techniques using technologies such as XSLT are playing an increasingly important part in software projects as they support the development of a rapidly maintainable code base. This article discusses some of the benefits and possible applications of code generation. To demonstrate these techniques the author develops a Web Forms application that supports the maintenance of records in a SQL Server database, using the database's own metadata to drive the generation process. The SQL Server database schema is extracted using SQLXML 3.0 data access and processed through XSLT stylesheets that generate both a database access layer and a Web Forms user interface with query and update pages.

Build an Easy Maintenance Intranet Site: Using Office Docs, File System Object, and OLE Structured S

If you've ever needed to build an easy-to-maintain intranet site, here's a solution based on Microsoft Office documents. Many sites require constant updating of their HTML, but the use of Word documents can simplify the process. This article details the construction of a human resources site that exploits the File System Object (FSO), OLE Structured Storage, and ActiveX capabilities of Word documents. This allows the HR staff to copy their revised or newly created Word files to the site, dynamically generate a list of links to their files, and free IS from the constant recoding of HR updates into new HTML pages.

VS.NET 2010 Not opening all associated projects with solution all of the sudden

I have a VS.NET 2010 solution (.sln) containing (3) separate projects (.vbproj).  All of the sudden today when I open the solution (manually navigate to the .sln file of the solution; not a quick link), only 1 of the projects is opening.  Before I totally mess this thing up, anyone know of the proper process to get all of the projects and the solution itself to open up and display in the 'Solution Explorer' window?

How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution

We have multiple projects (4 projects) in single sharepoint 2010 solution. We want to create single wsp deployment for this. But when I right click on any project, it creates package means wsp on its own. How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution? Is wsp builder which we are using for sharepoint 2007 project (works really great) also works in sharepoint 2010?

Error When Deploying Multiple Projects in a Solution

We have a solution with 16 projects, where all but 3 are Sharepoint 2010 projects. When we deploy the projects in VS2010 individually, everything is fine, but when we deploy the solution (right-click, deploy), we experience one of two problems: 1. Not all projects get deployed, some just give the following message: "Deployment was not performed for this project because it is a dependent project." 2. Some of the projects (currently always the same three Sharepoint2010 projects) give the following error during the "Recycle IIS Application Pool" step: "Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." We don't have any dependencies set up in the projects except for the ones which are automatically created when we add project references. If we do two subsequent solution deployments, the first one will suffer from issue 1 and the second from issue 2 as well. When issue 2 happens, the faulty projects can't even be deployed individually until VS2010 has been restarted.   A Google search has revealed nothing at all. We're at a loss and it's getting to be very frustrating for the entire team. Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks, Bjoern

Configure incoming e-mail settings - Error File Not Found?

Hello I am trying to setup a test server for SharePoint 2010 and I have followed the MS instructions for deploying a single SharePoint 2010 server with SQL server. I have had no problems or errors during the setup; however now going through the recomended post installation task of configuring incoming email settings I am getting an error message. I have added the SMTP service to the server, configured it in IIS then gone back to the SharePoint central administration page. When I click Configure incoming e-mail settings under System Settings I get the following error message. Error File Not Found. Correlation ID: cc08f335-6762-4c70-a690-ecfd012ec3c2 I have no idea what is causing this so have no way to resolve it, any help would be really appreciated.   Thanks

Upgrade Solution using a .wsp file created from a site template

Hello, I'm creating a new site template that I will need to move from my development to production server. I have saved the template as a .wsp file and installed it on my staging server without any problems. However, I know once the site goes into production that changes will occur and I will need to upgrade the site template. I have tried to make changes to my development site and save a new site template, and then move to my staging server and upgrade the existing solution using the below PowerShell command, but I get an error that the GUIDS are different and the solution cannot be upgraded. Command: Update-SPUserSolution -Identity MyTemplate v1.wsp -Site http://webapplication/site  -ToSolution MyTemplate v2.wsp Error: Update-SPUserSolution : Given solution cannot be upgraded to the provided ToSolution because the solutions have different Guids. Does anyone know how I would upgrade the solution when using a site template as the bases for the solution? Thanks, wm5

SQL Server 2005 (X64) Maintenance Clean Up Task Using Hours Option for File Age

I'm running into an issue with SQL Server 2005 64-bit and the maintenance clean up tasks.  I have it set up to delete any transaction logs or backups older than 12 hours.  It seems that there could be some sort of bug because, according to the log files, SQL is running the clean up for 12 days instead.  I've created a work around for this by using execute transact-sql tasks instead, but was wondering if there's a problem with my version of SQL Server, like an SP or patch that I've overlooked. Here's my version information: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (X64)   Oct 14 2005 00:35:21   Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...

Thanks

Reading in values in text file in a project solution to an array

Hi,

I have a tab delimited text file that has 6 columns (all integers) and 500 rows (and no column headings) called ProjectData.txt that I have added to my Windows Form Application (c#) (by added I mean I have it in my project solution).

I have declared an array in my code called ProjectDataArray which has dimensions [500, 6].

I wish to load each column of each row into the array.

All the code I have seen shows how to do this for text files that are not included in the project solution.

Is this easy to do?

Defining a regular expression in the application settings xml file.

I have a little question about application settings. I have a regular expression in my code which should be customizable by the user so I made an application setting for it.  The regular expression is used in a class in the project and has the following value

Dim email_regularex As String

So now I made a new Settings file in my project and gave the following value for this string in the settings file:

^([\w-]+(?:\.[\w-]+)*)@((?:[\w-]+\.)*\w[\w-]{0,66})\.([a-z]{2,6}(?:\.[a-z]{2})?)$

http://i51.tinypic.com/beixbp.jpg

So when i do this in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio automatically creates a app.config xml file with the right settings in it.

But when I start my application and use the regular expression like this:

Dim

 myMatch As

 Match = Regex.Match(email, email_regularex)
 If

 Not

 myMatch.Success Then

MsgBox("Please enter a valid email address like: iiiiii@iii.com"

, MsgBoxStyle.Critical)
 ElseIf

 myMatch.Success

the application break

First WCF Connection Slow and Proxy Settings in app.config file

Hi,

I'm new to the WCF and currently facing problems with my first connection to a service we created to connect an Excel OBA to SAP. The first connection is extremely slow, approximately 20 seconds, but once it is establish everything goes really quick afterwards. I've read through some posts and seems like the proxy settings could have an impact. I'm pasting the code of my app.config file below, can you please let me know how I should modify it to include proper proxy settings to improve the first connection?

Also, the proxy thing is just a guess, is there anything else I could do to improve this? Any hint would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!
Martin
