hyperlink to a local file

Hi guys,

I tried to create a hyperlink in c# web application.  This hypelink is linking to a file in my computer.  When I click on the hypelink, it should open a new window with the file.  Here is my code:

<asp: hyperlink id="hyperlink1" runat="server" target="_blank" NavigateUrl="file:///d:\checklist.doc">Check List</asp:hyperlink>

But the new window never show up.  If I change the link to http site or network file, it works fine.  I developed this code in Visual Studio 2003.  I wrote a html file with html hyperlink to this local file, it works fine:

<a href="D:\AUS Leave Form - Melbourne.doc">link</a>

But if I add this code in apsx file, the html hyperlink is not working too.

I did search on internet without luck.  I need to fix it in a short time.  I really appreciate any comment.

Thank you,

David

How to open XML file from ASP Hyperlink control

How can I open a XML file from the location mentioned in the web.config file using Hyperlink control?

I have an aspx page with hyperlink control and in code behind I do the following:

hypLink.Text = "Transformed XML";
hypLink.NavigateUrl = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["OutputXML"];

Web.config file looks like:

<add key="OutputXML" value="C:\Working\MyTest\XMLTransform\App_Data\Transformed.xml"/>

This code is not working. In IE, it doesn't do anything but in FF, it throws a error box with message that the "FF doesn't know how to open this address..."

Hyperlink to a local file.

There is a hyperlink to a local file...for instance....C:/text.txt. This is not possible, because ASP.net does not allow links to local files. But, links to files on network drives such as W:/test.txt are working ok.

My question is... how does the browser know which drive letter is local, and which is networked? How does it know that C: is local or D: is local etc, and that W: is a network drive?

Hyperlink button with file browse on infopath

Hi,

We need to have a button on our Infopath Web Form that will prompt the user to browse for a file and this would add a link to the selected document.

We don't want to attach a file since the file is already someware on the Sharepoint site. The "Insert Hyperlink" control is out of the question, we don't want users to cut and paste the URL. We can't refer to a list to create a dropdown of the files since it can be on several lists.

I don't mind doing code behind, custom controls, rules or anything that can acheive this. I already have plenty of coding in the form anyway.

Thanks for any help.

How to link or hyperlink files form a File Share from SharePoint

Hi all

We want to put a hyperlink to a directory in a shared drive where there is plenty of space for archive and the overflow of documents.

When someone goes to a document folder and wants to upload their document on SharePoint, when they click, instead of going to the upload page, is there a way that they are hyperlinked to a share drive folder where there is plenty of room.

Is there a way to link or hyperlink  directly from a SharePoint document library to a file or file share?

Please advice

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SmtpClient and Locked File Attachments

Got a note a couple of days ago from a client using one of my generic routines that wraps SmtpClient. Apparently whenever a file has been attached to a message and emailed with SmtpClient the file remains locked after the message has been sent. Oddly this particular issue hasn't cropped up before for me although these routines are in use in a number of applications I've built.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Multi File Upload Using JQuery!

You can transfer one file at a time between your computer and another Bluetooth device by using the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard. For example, you can transfer files between your computer and a mobile phone or a PDA. You can also transfer files between two computers that use Bluetooth.
