Using Google SMTP server (smtp.gmail.com) when configuring subscriptions unders SSRS 2008

Hello All, I have read thru numerous posts and have reviewed several links with no luck.  I am trying to use gmail smtp servers (smtp.gmail.com) to configure SSRS 2008 to send email.  It's running on Server 2003 Standard SP2. No Exchange server, we use gmail. Error message I receive is "Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. Mail will not be resent." Here is a copy of my RS Email Config: <Configuration> <RSEmailDPConfiguration> <SMTPServer>smtp.gmail.com</SMTPServer> <SMTPServerPort></SMTPServerPort> <SMTPAccountName></SMTPAccountName> <SMTPConnectionTimeout> </SMTPConnectionTimeout> <SMTPServerPickupDirectory> </SMTPServerPickupDirectory> <SMTPUseSSL></SMTPUseSSL> <SendUsing>2</SendUsing> <SMTPAuthenticate></SMTPAuthenticate> <From>myemailaddress@gmail.com</From> <EmbeddedRenderFormats> <RenderingExtension>MHTML</RenderingExtension> </EmbeddedRenderFormats> <PrivilegedUserRenderFormats> </PrivilegedUserRenderFormats> <ExcludedRenderFormats> <RenderingExtension>HTMLOWC</RenderingExtension> <RenderingExtension>NULL</RenderingExtension> <RenderingExtension>RGDI</RenderingExtension> </ExcludedRenderFormats> <SendEmai

Configure Incoming Email in SharePoint 2010 with a remote (public) SMTP Server

I have a standalone SharePoint 2010 Installation on my local network. Have configured the SMTP Services and a SMTP domain called "internalcompany.com". Created a hosts file entry also for that - now outlook is able to send emails to this domain; it reaches the drop folder and from there SharePoint picks it up and pushes to the document libraries. So far so good. But obviously this is not what I want to do: my www.company.com is my public domain and mail server is mail.company.com - how do I get the local SMTP point to this address - so that if someone sends an email to shareddocs@company.com (just like any other normal id), it comes to my local server and then SharePoint. How do I do this? Remember, my server is standalone and my network is not domain based and does not have exchange.Karthick

Confused about SMTP setup on Server 2008

I can't seem to find the basic SMTP configuration.  How can I configure the basic SMTP services.  The SMTP service is there and the features list shows that SMTP is installed.  I can't find the MMC tool for it.

Thanks!

Seven reasons to care about SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft begins to fully realize its vision of SQL Server as an information platform and not "just" a database. Hence the main theme for this release -- at least according to Microsoft -- is self-service BI. The PowerPivot plug-ins for Excel 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are easily going to make the biggest splash of all the new features, not least because they're the most complete. But then, SQL Server 2008 R2 isn't strictly necessary for PowerPivot for Excel, which works with plenty of other data sources.

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

Problem
One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

Solution
If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

sql server 2008 adventureworks database

dear Friends

For my MCTS 70 -433 examination, I recently installed sql server 2008 and installed the sample databases too. but my issue is, in that book they have mentioned a database called "AdventureWorks2008" and the nice thing is I don't have a such a database with me in my sql server 2008.

And the query is

-- MERGE Statement
USE AdventureWorks2008
MERGE INTO	Sales.SalesOrderDetailHistory AS SODH
USING Sales.SalesOrderDetail AS SOD
ON SODH.SalesOrderID = SOD.SalesOrderID
AND SODH.SalesOrderDetailID = SOD.SalesOrderDetailID
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY TARGET THEN
INSERT (LineTotal, SalesOrderID, SalesOrderDetailID, CarrierTrackingNumber, OrderQty
, ProductID, SpecialOfferID, UnitPrice, UnitPriceDiscount
, rowguid, ModifiedDate, Cancelled)
VALUES(LineTotal, SalesOrderID, SalesOrderDetailID, CarrierTrackingNumber, OrderQty
, ProductID, SpecialOfferID, UnitPrice, UnitPriceDiscount
, rowguid, ModifiedDate, DEFAULT)
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE THEN
UPDATE SET SOHD.Cancelled = 'True'
OUTPUT $action , inserted.* ;

Please help me to overcome this issue and let me know where can I download that database too.

Thanking you

happy Coding

Word Automation Issue in Windows Server 2008 Hosting

Hi,

The problem I am posting here is that I was facing nearly 2 weeks around. Any body comes with this stuff please help.

Word Automation in sample ASP.NET(C#) application.

I am using Microsoft.Office.Inetrop.Word Assembly for automation. Here I am reading a XXX.dot template file and fill the contents with dynamic data.

When i am executing my code in localhost:someportnumber the automation is working fine and I could get expected result and when I am hosting in my inetmgr(Windows XP is my OS) it is also working fine.

But the problem is that when I am hosting in my production server(Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition) I am not able to perform automation and results in the following error.

Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal
Message: Word has encountered a problem.
Source: Microsoft Word

The code gets failed in the following line:

ApplicationClass wordApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass();

Document wordDoc = wordApp.Documents.Add(ref oTemplate, ref oFalse, ref oMissing, ref oMissing); // Error in this line

I cannot able to proceed further. Can anybody please help me in solving this issue?

Thank you.

With Regards,

Ashok

No ASPNET User in Windows Server 2008?

I have been looking everywhere online regarding this, but have not found a clear answer.

I have an ASP.Net app running on Windows Server 2008, it's basically a reporting app using Crystal Reports. I have encountered a roadblock in regards to rendering some pages. When I run the app in Visual Studio(on the same 2008 machine) everything works perfectly. Yet when I publish it and run it live the reports will not display correctly, I get a message saying Failed to render page.

I looked this error up in the Crystal Reports website and the fixes they have there refer to giving the windows "aspnet" user full access rights to certain folders on the machine. I would be happy to do this, however there is no aspnet user in Windows Server 2008.

I installed the server and set its role to be Web Server. I also checked all the options regarding ASP.Net and IIS 6 compatibility. Yet there is no ASPNET username anywhere.

Did I set the server up wrong? or do I have to do something within ASP.Net to  create this user and then give it rights?

Not working on Windows Server 2008

Hi,

I had the CSS friendly adapters working great on our old server (windows server 2003 - 32bit) and now we have moved to a 64 bit environment and now I can not get the CSS friendly adapters to work.

We are using SharePoint 2007.

Is there another work thru for 64bit environment.

I notice windows server 2008 has a directory  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 would I be using the browser file in this directory???

Please help!

Under the Table: Programming with FileStreams in SQL Server 2008

There's always been disagreement about whether large blobs, such as document and multimedia items, should be stored in the database or file system. In SQL Server 2008 you don't have to choose; filestream storage provides the best of both approaches.
