ReadXML Timeout

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am reading an XML file from an external URL and putting it into a dataset that is the populates a repeater. This works fine when I run it locally, however on the published web site I receive A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time error messages.

However, if i type the URL directly into a browser, I get the XML file almost immeadately which leads me to believe that I am going about this the wrong way or I need to some how to extend the timeout period.

Here is my code:

Protected Sub ButtonValidate_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonValidate.Click
        If Page.IsValid = False Then
        End If

        TableCellVATSIMIDResults.Text = "<br />VATSIM ID Validation Results for <i>" & TextBoxVATSIMID.Text & "</i>"
        Dim DataSetVATSIMValidation As New DataSet
        DataSetVATSIMValidation.ReadXml("http://cert.vatsim.net/cert/vatsimnet/idstatus.php?cid=" & TextBoxVATSIMID.Text)

<asp:Repeater runat="server" ID="RepeaterVATSIMValidation">
                    <HeaderTemplate />

DataTable - Load from IDataReader - CreateDataReader - ReadXml WriteXml - Free ADO.NET Tutorials

The DataTable in ADO.NET 2.0 has been seriously beefed up and I absolutely love it. Not everything we consume deals with multiple resultsets and requires the ever popular DataSet. With the cool new features in the ADO.NET 2.0 DataTable, we can get many of the cool features in the DataSet without all the extra baggage and memory footprint particular to multiple resultsets.

hi there,

is it possible that session time out is calculated in seconds and not in minutes?

i am setting it at web.config, global.asax, default.aspx and at the web server to 30 (minutes) and session last exactly for 30 seconds.

Session Timeout increase to 2 hours.

    for Business needs i am planning to increase the session timeout to 2 hours(120 min) in one application, i am using sql server session state. if i increase to 2 hours of session time out, how it will effect the performance of application and web server.

Very slow regasm.exe and aspnet_regiis.exe make a setup timeout.

Hello, I originally posted my problem in the Exchange forum, but I think that it is an ASP.NET issue. The Exchange setup launch "aspnet_regiis -config+" command with maximum timeout of 120 seconds. If I manually launch the command, it take 240 seconds for a successful résult. I found that this command use regasm.exe, witch take 3.5 Minutes just for help (regasm.exe /?) All details are on : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/70d8cbfa-6e9e-47be-87b8-969ad1a581aa Can you help me ? Syncerely Yours, David.MCSE, MCITP Exchange 2K7 & 2K10

Why does this query timeout in an application but not in Management Studio?

I have a query that looks something like this:   SELECT TOP 1 * FROM Customers c (NOLOCK) WHERE Key = (mykey) AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 0 FROM Invoices i (NOLOCK) WHERE i.key = c.key AND i.Date > GETDATE() )   When I run this inside an (ODBC) application, it times out.   When I run it within SSMS, it works fine.  That might make you think its an application problem, but the timeout only occurs for one specific customer ... even in the application, it works fine for all other key values.    Any idea where I can even start looking for a solution to this?  Thanks.

Cannot timeout connections when a network outage occurs

Hi, We are running SQL Server 2008 in a mirrored configuration.  Client access is performed using the Microsoft JDBC 2.0 driver, configured to failover to the Mirror in the event the Primary database is unavailable.  Additionally, the client maintains a database connection pool using Apache DBCP's BasicDataSource.  During testing, we have found that the failover works flawlessly if either the primary Database is taken offline or the primary SQL Server service is stopped - attempts to use existing pooled connections to the primary database fail immediately and new connections are created to the mirror database. However, when simulating a network failure (by disabling the network interface on the SQL Server machine) things aren't so nice.  The client first attempts to use an existing pooled connection to the primary database.  At this point the client hangs for up to 15 minutes before failing with the following error: Caused by: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Connection timed out         at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection.terminate(SQLServerConnection.java:1368)         at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection.terminate(SQLServerConnection.java:1355)         at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.TDSChannel.r

Increase timeout on Send Activity

I am using Send activity to call another Workflow service. I am getting the following error: The HTTP request to 'http://fulfillment.odp.skinit.com/OrderWorkflowService/AssemblyWorkFlow/ReleasePhysicalAssetsWithArt.xamlx' has exceeded the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. How do I increase the timeout in the Send Activity? Thanks.

Warning users before Session Timeout

Hi, In my web application, I want to alert users 5 minutes before their session timeout. If the users want, they can either extend their session or ignore the message - in which case after session timeout they will be redirected to the login page (I'm also using forms authentication in my site, so have set the authentication cookie expire time to the session timeout). I know I can do the alert with window.setTimeout, but I want to get user's respond and refresh the page if they want a session extension. How can I do that, in which event and whether I can do this in C# code behind. And also, should I implement this in the base page or somewhere else? How can I implement the auto page refresh - should I use a hidden button and click it from Javascript? It's great if someone can give a sample code for this.

Timeout error - The timeout period elapsed prior to completion

Hi, I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 (c#) with SQL Server 2008 server. Recently, I started getting error "Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.". After looking at forums for solutions, I added the below common code to my application. protected DbCommand CreateCommand() { SqlCommand sqlCommand = new SqlCommand(); sqlCommand.CommandTimeout = 600; // 10 minutes return sqlCommand; } However, intermittently, I'm still getting the timeout error. I added the logging to see where error is occuring. And found that before executing one of the query, it is giving this error. Now, my assumption is that I should have received this error after runnign query for 600 seconds (10 minutes) since I set it in the above function. But the timeout error is occuring instantaneously within 1 second itself. In the log, I printed one line above & after the query to identify how much time it would take. Surprisingly, the log says that 9:00 AM "Before query execution" & at 9:01 AM "timeout expired...." I would really appreciate if some one can help me out here! Thanks!

SSRS SiteSettings.Timeout

Dear colleagues, I am trying to set site level Timeout property using SSRS 2008 R2 but reports are not getting timedout right at the configured numbers of seconds. Here are the steps which i followed ReportManager > Site settings > timeout property set to 30 seconds , saved the changes and then accessed a already uploaded report from reportmanager site after restarting the SSRS service.   Reportserver.RunningJobs table is showing one record for the which is running and also 30 seconds values is seen in timeout column of the runningjobs table. But report is not getting timedout at 30 seconds and report is getting timedout at consistantly.  Here are the results which are gathered ElapsedTime Status Actual Error message displayed on report. 381 rsReportServerDatabaseError The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. 79 rsProcessingAborted Report processing has been canceled by the user. (rsProcessingAborted) 52 rsProcessingAborted Report processing has been canceled by the user. (rsProcessingAborted) 52 rsProcessingAborted Report processing has been canceled by the user. (rsProcessingAborted)   Why report was not getting timedout consistantly? What are the other steps which i can make in SSRS config files so that timeout will happen perfectly.

Dialup/Earthlink 65534 Timeout issue..

I'm not sure where else to go on this. We've got ~50 locations that have a working synch application that brings in data from SqlExpress2005 db's to our production Sql Server 2005. It has and does work fine in most locations that are on 56k leased lines. One location, however; is dialup through Earthlink. The synch runs fine until it synchs data with one table..Sale_item. It synchs some records but not all. On the one record, I see (through debug msg's boxes I coded) that it's trying to insert into the prod db here. I watch in activity monitor and there's nothing that is blocking. I have the db timeout set to zero (which I thought meant no timeout) so I'm not sure what else to try. It synchs by finding which keys are on prod and which are on the plant and issuing I,U,D's as needed.
