Alternate DR startergy help

All, I have a database to the tune of 2TB, Partitioning has been done to this db, we remove partitions and add partitions. the setup is a 2node Active passsive cluster, SQL 64-bit 2008 Eneterprise ediction in a Windows 2003 Eneterprise Os The current DR stratergy we have impemented is SRDF, and we have started to face problems with this Dr type and have decides to give thought to Mirroring. below is the problems that we currently face Problems 1.       Datafile corruption.  Any datafile corruption which happens on the active side is transferred to the mirrored drive. 2.       More cumbersome for failover do DR. a.       Database must be stopped.  b.      must manually failover the drives and bring the DR servers online.  Depending on the setup, datafiles must be copied c.       The whole process takes 15 to 20 minutes 3.       Database server is inaccessible until drives are failed over. Re-syncing large data stores after maintenance can takes a long time. (24 hours + with a 1TB database) Let me know if its advisable to go ahead with Miroring, if there are disadvantages please let me know what that could be as the size of the DB is 2 TB. Do any of you had problems with SRDF? how you ov

Initialize snapshot fro alternate location - multiple .bcp files for an article

I have to replicate over 50GB of data over a slow network.  I did not use the option to initialize snapshot from database backup because the replication articles contain row filters.  If I do that, I'll have to run a lot of scripts to remove the data and other unnecessary database objects on the subscriber. Instead, I created a workaround.  On the publisher, I first create the actual push subscription to the target subscriber on the publication.  This subscription is set not to initialize from snapshot.  I then created a second push subscription on the same publication, but the subscriber is a random database on the publisher server.  This second subscription is a dummy subscription set to initialize from snapshot - the purpose is to generate the necessary snapshot files.  I then reinitialized all subscriptions and generate the new snapshot files. On the subscriber, an empty database is created with the same tables as the publisher database.  I created an identical publication on this empty database, and a dummy push subscription on the target subscriber.  The subscription is reinitialized, and the snapshot files on the empty database is created.  These dummy snapshot files are then overwritten with the actual snapshot files created on the publisher, and then I synchronize the the dummy subscriptions with the actual sn

Test WEB Service, Consume From Alternate PC

I'm developing a web service which will be consumed by a Motorola RFID Scanning System. For test/debug I want to execute it from withing VS (which executes it on the dev box, available through localhost) but have it accessible by the external device. How do I go about exposing the web service from my dev box to the 'outside' world?  VS2008 on WinXP. TIA - Gary Gary in Massena. WinForms Client Development. SQL Server Management and Development.

Reporting Services and Sharepoint Integration - Sharepoint Alternate Access Mappings (Zones)

I get the following error when I try to navigate to a report/model/data source, stored in a Sharepoint Document Library using a Sharepoint URL based on an Extranet or Intranet zone - but it works OK using the url for the Default zone: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecurityZoneNotSupportedException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. Is this a limitation of the SQLRS-WSS3 integration or is there a workaround? Many thanks to anyone who can help!

Gridview not showing alternate colors

I am trying to make the colors different for every line, so lets say one line white and the next light grey. I tried it in the gridview using autoformatting direct formatting css formatting but it has no effect on the display! The lines are all white! Only formatting to work is the header formatting. Who can help? For CSS, I have<RowStyle CssClass="gridRow" /> <HeaderStyle CssClass="gridHeaderSort" /> <AlternatingRowStyle CssClass="gridAlternateRow" /> and .gridAlternateRow {  background-color: #DCDCDC; /*LightGrey*/  } .gridRow {   background-color: White; } .gridHeaderSort { background-color: #DCDCDC; color: Black; font-weight: bold; text-align: left; }   I tried with every option - without any effect. Visual Studio 2005, IE6. No change in the preview, no change when running. I tried with a font option for the row - this one is evaluated. I tried setting it programmatically - no change.

Alternate way other than function

Hi All, I have table value function which splits the string here it is:- CREATE FUNCTION dbo.Split(@String VARCHAR(8000), @Delimiter CHAR(1)) RETURNS @temptable TABLE (items VARCHAR(8000)) AS BEGIN DECLARE @idx INT DECLARE @slice VARCHAR(8000) SELECT @idx = 1 IF LEN(@String)<1 or @String IS NULL RETURN WHILE @idx!= 0 BEGIN SET @idx = CHARINDEX(@Delimiter,@String) IF @idx!=0 SET @slice = LEFT(@String,@idx - 1) ELSE SET @slice = @String IF(LEN(@slice)>0) INSERT INTO @temptable(Items) VALUES(@slice) SET @String = RIGHT(@String, LEN(@String) - @idx) IF LEN(@String) = 0 BREAK END RETURN END And we are spliting the string using the above function easily into SSRS report Data set ...... But now as this object will be going to create on to our Security Production Server, DBA team is not allowing to create any new objects on the same PROD server, hence Is their any other way to split the string WITHOUT CREATing ANY FUNCTION OR STORE PROCEDURE, if so please do let me know. I tried whole day yesterday to create new split function and finally made it to work the same function to split with user selects multiple values from the report parameter, but now DBA team is not allowing to create new objects into our PROD Server. Purely this is not a SSRS question it is t-sql based question, Thanks!! Any Help? Please   Thanks Rega

MySite Alternate Access Mappings not working

Hi, I had some problems with my upgraded SP2010 server last week. Something happend and the web.config files for each web application was reset to base settings. I had some backup on these files and got everything working again. The only thing that is NOT working is Alternate access mappings for MySites. if I use the server:port url all the webparts work just fine. But when I set it to the AAM I used before the "crash" no webparts work. It is just the message: Web Part Error: "This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists. " Does anyone have an idea where to start looking for bad configuration? Regards Joakim Gustafsson Stratiteq Sweden

Alternate Access mapping - Intranet site

Hi All, I'm banging my head against a brick wall here trying to setup an alternate access mapping for an intranet site in SharePoint 2007. I have a default site setup which has the following public default URL: http://SERVERNAME:2586 I want users to access the site using the URL http://Intranet Now from reading about alternate access mappings I thought this should be as simple as adding an internal url of http://intranet under the intranet zone. With this set up I preceded to add the binding to the IIS website. I added the binding with All Assigned IP addresses, port 2586, and host as Intranet. The final thing I did to check this was to add an entry to the hosts file for the server IP address with the host name of intranet. This was followed by a flush of the DNS cache on the server. Whgen trying to access the site using the URL i now get the IIS7 welcome page, but not the SharePoint site I expected. Can anyone point me in the direction of what i've done wrong, Its got me stumped. Cheers, Grant

Alternate Access Mapping Problems

I have set up a windows server 2003 and sharepoint 3.0 on the same computer. First, I set up two "New Host A" in my DNS Server - Forward Look up Zones and then I tried to access the websites. No luck.  I went to the run command and pinged both sites to see if they worked. They pinged as they should. Then I went into Sharepoint and set up the Alternate Access Mappings with a default and extranet zone. A login box appeared which won't accept my administrator password or anyone else's.  I can log directly into all site collections that I have developed. I saw that you advised someone with regards to their login and browser but could you explain in more detail what you mean by that?  I am a bit stupid sometimes. :-) I also changed all the properties in my DNS Server host records to have full administrator privileges. Can you please advise if I should take that back off as a precautionary security measure. It didn't resolve my problem anyway. Thanking you in advance. Tracey

GridView Alternate Row not taking on the background color that I specified

I have a number of gridview controls within my application.  I am unable to assign the alternating row background color attribute.  All other alternate row attributes do "take".  I have temporarily placed these attributes in-line and removed all references to the CSS and to the skin files.  Here are some code samples.  Any thoughts? <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/SiteMasterSG.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="AddNewMember.aspx.cs" Inherits="IVA.pages.AddNewMember" %> <asp:Content ID="AddNewMemberMenu" ContentPlaceHolderID="MenuContentPlaceHolder" runat="server"> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="MemberSiteMapDataSource" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="False" SiteMapProvider="MemAdmin" /> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="GuestSiteMapDataSource" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="False" SiteMapProvider="Guest" /> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="CompanyMapDataSource" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="False" SiteMapProvider="CoAdmin" /> <asp:SiteMapDataSource ID="SystemSiteMapDataSource" runat="server" ShowStartingNode="False" Site
