In this article we can explore the Out of the Box aka Built-in Workflows of SharePoint 2010.

Out of the Box Workflows

Following are the Out of the Box Workflows in SharePoint 2010:

·  Three-state
·  Disposition Approval
·  Collect Signatures
·  Collect Feedback
·  Approval

These workflows are activated through the Site Collection features.

SharePoint 2007 Workflows

In addition to these, SharePoint 2007 workflows can be activated through Site collection features.

By default the SharePoint 2007 workflows are not activated.

Associating Workflow

The workflow can be associated with a List or Library.  To add a workflow to a list, open the list and click on the List tab.

From the Workflow Settings toolbar button, click on the Add a workflow menu item.

In the appearing page as shown above, we can:

·  Select the workflow
·  Set a unique name for identifying this workflow
·  Set Tasks & History list

Some workflows contain additional steps to be configured.

Email Configuration

Although some of the workflows send email notifications, you cannot view them without a mail server configured.  In the Real World Scenarios of this book you can find an article on configuring Development Email Server.
A Development Email Server has to be configured to test the workflow email features which we are going to explore soon.
