In our earlier article Overview on some of the new Features of Visual Studio 2012 we gave a heads up on the Visual Studio IDE and what are the minimum System requirements that are required to start installing Visual Studio IDE and developing your own application with the latest features. Also we have listed the new features that are involved in the latest release of the Integrated Development Environment for Visual Studio. Now in this article we will see the new important feature that is release which is New Templates that are available for immediate application development.
So what is the new template available, you can hear people speak Windows Store, Windows 8 apps etc which is of a new Modern UI. A Windows Store app is a new variety of windows application that runs on Windows 8 devices. Unlike the traditional windows desktop application, a Windows Store app has a single, chromeless window that fills the entire screen. Windows Store app can support different layouts and views to create a fluid and harmonious experience across a variety of form factors and display sizes.
Ok lets start seeing it in action, open Visual Studio 2012 IDE in administrator mode and create a new Project from the File Menu, where we can see a window with the list of available templates as shown in the screen below.
In the windows we can select the appropriate language which we are familiar, say in our case we will select C#.net language and select Windows Store template as shown in the screen below. We can see a list of templates available for Windows Store application development, select from the list which best suits the requirement. In this example we will select a Blank App and see how exactly the project is created and simply build and execute the application. Once we provide a valid name click on OK and we can see a list of file created for the project as shown in the screen below. Now just add a simple textblock in the Mainpage.xaml file as shown in the screen below. This is just to verify that we are running the correct application.
So now the application ready, let us build and execute it by simply pressing the F5 button from the key board or use the tool bar keys from the IDE to execute the project. We can see a beautiful full screen Modern UI application opens with the label which we added as shown in the screen below.
So to conclude in this article we have seen a new feature of Visual Studio IDE which is a Windows Store Application Development templates for different languages. Keep looking into http://www.Dotnetspark.com for the latest on this series.v
