Posted By:Ramesh P       Posted Date: October 16, 2010    Points: 50    Category: .Net Framework    URL: http://www.dotnetspark.com

Strong name is a key which helps GAC to differentiate two versions. This article helps to study about strong name that how to sign with our application.

Strong name helps GAC(Global assembly cache) to differentiate between two versions. It is only needed when we deploy the assembly with GAC. It uses public key cryptocrophy to ensure that no one spoof it.

To create strong name, first go to command prompt and type the following line,

sn -k "c:testkey.snk"

Here sn indicates a word of strong name. k indicates "key".

After generating the strong name we have to sign with our project. For that, In our project window select the project menu and select the sub menu properties. In properties pop up window browse the strong name to the  appropiate path under the signing tab. Then build the project. That's all. we have signed strong name with our application.
