Function to remove unwanted Charater like /\)

This method is being used to remove all char which can be input in text box and cause cause cross site scripting hacking.
 

 public static string RemoveUnwantedCharacter(this String stringToBeValidate_)
        {
            if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(stringToBeValidate_))
            {
                return stringToBeValidate_;
            }
            else
            {
                StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(stringToBeValidate_.Trim());

                stringBuilder.Replace(")", "");
                stringBuilder.Replace("(", "");
                stringBuilder.Replace(";", "");
                stringBuilder.Replace("--", "");
                stringBuilder.Replace("|", "");
                return stringBuilder.ToString();
            }
