What is ASP.NET?

ASP.NET is a technology used to create web applications and dynamic web sites. ASP.NET is compatible and is integrated with the .NET framework.

What Is ASP?

ASP(Active Server Pages) is a technology that helps us to create web pages dynamically. In ASP web page is an HTML file with server site scripts written in VB Script or JScript.

When a client request an ASP page, the web server delivers the static HTML portion of the page as it is and processes the server site script which further generates HTML.

The problem with ASP are as follows,
1.Scripts present in an ASP page are interpreted.

2.The entire HTML portion and scripting portion is jumbled up in one .asp file.

ASP.NET

ASP.NET solves all these problems faced with ASP. First of all ASP.Net pages are compiled and are not interpreted.

Secondly ASP.NET pages are structured, means server site script and HTML can be separated.

ASP.NET provides a feature called code behind. This feature allow us to separate the server side code of the page and to place it in another file. A ".aspx" file contains the HTML portion of the application and a ".cs" file contains the code. This allows one part of the team to concentrate on HTML design and other team to work on coding.
