ADD / Remove constraints query

Posted By:nishithraj       Posted Date: November 27, 2009    Points: 10    Category: SQL Query    URL: http://www.dotnetspark.com

Following is the way to add and remove constraints from the table through the T-SQL statement.

Sample query to add primary key

ALTER TABLE [tblname] ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_constraintname] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[id] ASC
)

Sample query to add foreign key

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tblname] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_constraintname] FOREIGN KEY([AgreementID])

REFERENCES [dbo].[tblname] ([id])

GO

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tblname] CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_constraintname]

GO

Remove Foreign and Primary key constraints

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tblname]DROP CONSTRAINT [FK_constraintname]

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tblname] DROP CONSTRAINT [PK_constraintname]

Remember you should remove the Foreignkey constraint before removing Primary key constraint
