Follow this steps

1) place the update panel form ajax extension from tool bar......
ur coding look as

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"></updatepanel>

2)place the UpdateProgress form ajax extension from tool bar......
ur coding look as

<asp:UpdateProgress ID="UpdateProgress1" runat="server" ></asp:UpdateProgress>

3) then type AssociatedUpdatePanelID in update progress and assign the updatepanel id to it

4)then type ProgressTemplate inside those tags

5)finally ur code look like

<asp:UpdateProgress ID="UpdateProgress1" runat="server"
AssociatedUpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1">
<ProgressTemplate>
<asp:Image ID="Image1" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/CmpyImg/ajax-loader.gif" />Please Wait.......
