read excel cell value in windows application

i need to extract excel cell value using Windows application (c#)..
i wrote below code
string temp = (string)(range.Cells[2, i] as Excel.Range).Value2;

but it doesn't return nothing...

if i modify same line as follow
string temp = (range.Cells[2, i] as Excel.Range).Value2.ToString();

it showing error as follows " Use "NEW" Keyword to create new instance....
