The biggest difference is that with Crystal Reports, your reports exist as files on your PC or network location. To run the report, you need Crystal Reports. To code against it and deploy, you need the Crystal Reports runtime re-distributable files.

With SSRS, the reports exist on the server and can be accessed from any web browser. You code against SSRS using the web service and therefore do not have to worry about distributing runtime files with your application.
