What are .mdf files?

What are .mdf files? What is the use of .mdf files?

HI,

.MDF file are used by sql server to stored data. When you create a database it will create 2 more file which reside in the root folder of the sql server.

1 .mdf (Master Data File)
2 .ldf

MDF stored data and ldf stores the log
