SPList has a property called EventReceivers which is nothing but a collection of events , so you can associated more than one event handler. A good eg: is if you associate an workflow with a SharePoint list and if you configure to start the workflow whenever an item added/updated, then internally it will be registering an event handler with that list, so even if you have any custom event handlers registered with that list with same operation all those events will fire sequentially.
